Well not really yet, HTML5 is not ready yet for production, mainly because most browsers don’t fully support it. For example even IE8 doesn’t support most HTML5, and as a SEO you must know there are still lots of people using IE7 out there, even IE6 lol. So that’s the main issue with HTML5, it will take a few years before most people can view it, so at the moment it is more experimental.

But, if you take the example of a video player, you could have a Flash video Player, and have a HTML5 fall back for mobile devices (read Apple devices as everyone else supports flash), so in some cases HTML5 can already be used, but forget about animated HTML5 websites for another 5 years.

IE9 will support HTML5, but when you see that some people still use IE6 after 10 years, you can imagine how long it will take for IE9 to be adopted enough so HTML5 can be used and seen by most. Also 1 big problem with IE9 is that it doesn’t work on Windows XP.

Anyways, I wouldn’t propose HTML5 as an option to your clients yet, but I was curious if you were getting requests…thing is what I just said about the limitations of HTML5, a lot of clients don’t know, so it is very well possible that people start to believe HTML5 is ready, but currently you need “fall backs” meaning if HTML5 is not supported you must provide a plain HTML alternative, which means double the work and so double the price…so it is not practical to use HTML5 yet.

And in any case, any animations is coded in javascript…it’s a lot of hype if you ask me…HTML5 has been in development for 5 years already lol. If someone didn’t open his mouth with “Flash will die, HTML5 is the future”,  noone would be talking about it, but it seems everything this someone says, everyone believes. My advise is to do your home work on html5 and deside for yourself.
