Google +1 button

Google has announced a new feature in search engine results that allow search users to recommend sites via the Google +1 button.

Google’s +1 button will be on all search engine results across the Internet.

You can view +1′s from friends and family, contacts pretty much anyone, you also have the option to instruct your own +1′s to make it privater or public.

One needed to be logged in to your Google account and have a Google profile. This is not going to go over well. Unless you work on the internet, as not a lot of people want to share their information with Google. (like we already dont, lol)

The Google +1 button is not live yet, but searchers can activate it if they want to try it out. The Google +1 button will also begin to appear on sites across the Web.

Google has detailed features at its official blog.

My view of the Google +1 button as a professional point of view?  This is can very well be the ultimate back link tool for any website. SEO’s just got to entice searches to use this feature by offering free incentives on your search engine display results! Hello Google +1…hello FREE high ranking white hat websites! whoop!

Archie (1990):

The first few hundred web sites began in 1993 and most of them were at colleges, but long before most of them existed came Archie. The first search engine created was Archie, created in 1990 by Alan Emtage, a student at McGill University in Montreal. The original intent of the name was “archives,” but it was shortened to Archie.

Archie helped solve this data scatter problem by combining a script-based data gatherer with a regular expression matcher for retrieving file names matching a user query. Essentially Archie became a data base of web filenames which it would match with the users queries.
